Meet Our Staff
Jon Napper BSc Eng (Hons) — Managing Director + Owner
Jon graduated in 1977 with an Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering through a 4 year 'thin sandwich' undergraduate apprenticeship.By mid 1977 Jon, with his young family, moved South and joined TransXL as a Salesmen. Within 2 years Jon took over the day to day running of the factory, workshop and eventually the ownership of the business in 1992. He has overseen the free hold acquistion and growth of the site from the intial 14,000sq ft to over 35,000sq ft of buildings and facilities you can see today.
With over 3 decades of buying and selling Plastic Process Machinery worldwide, whilst running a small vibrant company in the plastics industry, Jon has channelled his knowledge into our recently updated bespoke computerised database called“e-quipu”. "e-quipu" is the backbone of our organisational needs with all notable information flowing through this fully integrated business solution. The front end of which provides all the web page updating and quotation handing seen by our clients.
Jon’s wife Sue has also worked for the business for several decades and was a key player during the takeover period, handling all the administration, accounts and the recruitment of most of our office staff. Sue is also an active shareholder and Trustee of the company Pension Fund and often accompanies Jon on trips to help promote the business. As both are keen motorcyclists they can be seen arriving at client premises on their gleaming machines!
Hobbies: visiting Daughter's and Grandchidren! Squash, Indoor Football, Cycling, Walking, Gardening, Fast Cars and Motorbikes, Supports Norwich City Football Club.
Ambitition: Continue to play squash (and beat my Sales Director!) as well as football into my sixties. More Travel and family time.
Jon Smith - Sales Director
Jon joined TransXL in 1995 and had previously been selling rubber extrusion machinery
into the European market. As a graduate in Marketing and Engineering, Jon is responsible
for the day to day running of the Buying, Selling and Marketing functions within
TransXL. With over 20 years experience within plastics machinery sales, and travel
to every continent with TransXL, every day still brings new challenges. You never
stop learning at TransXL... Hobbies - Jon is a very poor gardener, a marginally better golfer, and a fantastic squash player. He is married, with two young children, and has learnt that it's best to do whatever his wife tells him to do. Has been known to pick up a guitar.
Tim Wrighton- Sales & Marketing.
Tim Joined TransXL in 1997 and had been involved in the industry since 1992. . During
the time served a working knowledge of many different processes has been gained.
Tim also has a HND in Business. In addition to selling Tim is a key part of the
team responsible for purchasing and logistics of millions £'s of machinery for stock
and has been seen regularly jumping in and out of containers in various locations
world-wide.
Tim is also responsible for some of the marketing aspects of the business and has organised and attended exhibitions in India, Turkey, Russia, and Germany .
Married to Christine, Tim has 4 children, Matt, Josh, Joe, and Gemma, 1 dog, a cat, a rabbit, a gold fish, and a spider called Bert !!.
Hobbies: Keen motorcyclist, and is an Qualified Observer for the local IAM Group, assisting other motorcyclists to improve their riding skills in order to reach the standard of riding required for the IAM test. Also interested in general DIY, watching Motorsports and playing the odd game of Golf.
Lisa Redman - Administrator
Lisa joined TransXL in 1995 fresh from college and still a teenager at 19! As well
as answering your calls she covers a wide range of job titles including Sales support
& Marketing. She compiles and sends out our regular e-blasts of updated machinery
as well as our bi-annual stock lists. Also has her work cut out keeping the lads
in order!
Hobbies: Spending quality time with her family but also enjoys walking her dogs and running.
Bruce Hayllar B.Eng (Hons) M.Sc. - Operations Manager
Responsible for Engineering, Workshop, Site Facilities and Computer Systems. Bruce joined TransXL in 1994 after over 20 years in the Aerospace and Automotive industries. He served an undergraduate apprenticeship with Rolls Royce Aero Engines, obtaining a degree in Mechanical Engineering Science at Liverpool University and later read Digital Systems at Brunel University. Since arriving at TransXL he has enjoyed over 16 years of repairing and refurbishing plastics processing machinery and still learns something new every day!
Hobbies: Should be walking, cycling and travel, but more often (and equally enjoyable) DIY projects for four children and entertaining his grandchildren.
Steve Hobbs: - Support Supervisor.
Steve joined TransXL in 1985 originally as a fitter. Now he is in charge of the
day to day running of the busy workshop. His quarter of a century of service has
seen many changes and during this time Steve has built up a wealth of experience
having worked on many different types of plastics machinery. Steve is also responsible for all workshop purchasing and a specialist in tracking down obsolete parts or their modern day equivalent.
Married to Lorraine, Steve has 3 grown up sons - Andy, Barry and Jim and loves being around his grand children
Hobbies: DIY around the house, as well for family and friends.
